City of Hampton needs volunteers to plant seedlings March 9
The City of Hampton announced that volunteers are needed to plant tree seedlings at the Bethel Landfill from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9.
According to a press release, "The Hampton Clean City Commission, Virginia Cooperative Extension and Waste Management Inc. are joining forces to plant 450 tree seedlings at Bethel Landfill. The seedlings are being planted in the section along I-64 both to provide habitat for wildlife and to help screen the landfill from interstate travelers. We need volunteers who can dig holes for the seedlings, plant them properly (training provided at the event), and follow up on any additional care needed such as mulching and watering. Supplies will be provided but volunteers are invited to bring their shovels for the event since tools will be limited in number. Work gloves will be provided. Volunteers are asked to dress for the season, wear clothing and closed-toed shoes that can get dirty or muddy, and wear sun protection: hats and sunscreen. Water and refreshments will be provided, participants are asked to bring reusable water bottles if they have them."
