Poquoson grad Halverson scores 8 points in Christopher Newport victory

Poquoson High School graduate Kelly Halverson scored eight points in Christopher Newport University's 65-60 win over conference rival Maryville College on Jan. 20, according to Christopher Newport's website.

The senior also recorded two rebounds and one steal for the Captains, who improved to 14-2 on the season and 7-2 in the USA South Athletic Conference.

Christopher Newport's next game is 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 at home against William Peace University.

Halverson is a 2009 graduate of Poquoson High School, where she was a two-time first-team all-Bay Rivers District Selection playing for coach Jeff Gross. She was first-team all-district as a junior and senior while garnering second-team accolades as a sophomore and honorable mention status as a freshman. Halverson was a 1,000-point scorer in her career. She was a member of the National Honor Society, FBLA and FCA. She is majoring in communications and is from Poquoson.
