Poquoson students celebrate Constitution Day

Students in the Poquoson City Public Schools celebrated Constitution Day on Sept. 17.
The United States Congress established Constitution Day in 2004 to be observed in schools around the country.
Students attended educational programs about the history and signing of the Constitution.
Lessons taught at Poquoson Middle School covered the Constitution, the Preamble and the Bill of Rights. A celebration of the 225th anniversary of the Constitution was also held.
Students in sixth grade spent time in the library media center where they listened to an ebook on the Constitution and then composed an essay about why the document is important.
Poquoson City Public Schools are based at 500 City Hall Ave., Newport News.
