All Poquoson City Public Schools have met the state's accreditation standards this year.
Schools throughout the states including those in Poquoson faced challenges in meeting the standards for math. Poquoson saw an increase in sixth grade math performance; however, the new standards and testing methods had an impact on overall pass rates for the Standard of Learning.
Highlights from PCPS performance from the accreditation process include 23 of the 24 Standards of Learning tests taken in English, social studies an science had a pass rate of 88 percent or higher with 19 tests having pass rates of at least 90 percent.
All schools had a preliminary rating in English of at least 91 percent, in history the ratings reached at least 87 percent and in science ratings at all school were at least 92 percent.
The pass rates for grade-three reading increased from 82 percent to 90 percent and all secondary reading pass rates were at least 92 percent in grades tested. The pass rates for writing were 92 percent or higher in all tested grades.
High school science pass rates were between 97 percent and 99 percent for all courses that received tests.
"We are pleased by the level of student achievement on our SOL tests. Our student pass rates increased in several areas as a result of our instructional programs," Jennifer Parish, superintendent, said in a press release.
The superintendent went on to say that the school district will continue to work on increasing performance in math by finding ways to improve math instruction.
Schools in Poquoson City have met the standards every year since the state's Department of Education implemented them.
