Local dance students win 2012 Platinum National Dance championships
A group of local Academy of Dance students walked away with the 2012 Platinum National Dance title.
The Showbiz Kids traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to compete against students from hundreds of dance school across the country. The group is comprised of dance students from Hampton, Newport News, York County, Poquoson and Carrollton.
The dance students participated in tap, jazz, ballet and lyrical competition categories, winning top scores for four of the available age divisions. The Showbiz Kids won the Teen Elite Division, the Intermediate Division, the Junior Recreational Division and the Senior Elite Division.
The Stomp to My Beat group also achieved the highest score in the National Dance Championships to win the Senior Best Overall Award.
Stomp to My Beat is comprised of members Aleah Burrell, Angela Atwater, Armoni Harris, Brandy Storms, Bridget Evans, Courtney Taylor, Dorothy Kelly, Elysia Cardenas, Emily Donston, Hannah Russell, Jamaya Worrell, Jazmonae Ledbetter, Jordan Gaskin, Katie Hebert, Katie Stoll, Kenzie Herrmann, Kiana Orr, Makayla Stokes-Balkcom, MaryAshleigh Uenking, Sierra Wheeler, Stephanie Parker, Taylor Burrell and Taylor Katona.
