York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office announces 'RAIDS Online'
The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office is now offering RAIDS Online, a new service that allows York County residents to track crime in the area, according to an announcement from Sheriff J. D. Danny Diggs.
The sheriff's office worked recently with BAIR Analytics to provide the new public crime mapping website, whose acronym stands for Regional Analysis and Information Data Sharing.
RAIDS maps crime data, alerts York County residents about crimes in their area and allows the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office to alert the public quickly about crimes as they happen. Residents can easily move between the map, data grid and analytics to learn about the crimes they are most concerned about
The online system synchronizes with the sheriff's office records system to automatically upload crime information and continually update it on the map. It then uses Google maps to display location and basic information about the crimes in any area of interest to the user.
They system uses colored maps, icons and symbols to deliver easily-readable crime information at all zoom levels, from a national level down to the resident's neighborhood. Residents also can sign up for neighborhood crime alerts to receive daily, weekly or monthly emails with a breakdown of crimes in their area.
The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office obtained RAIDS Online without cost, and it doesn't cost residents anything to access the program. Many agencies throughout the United States spend thousands of dollars every year to provide even the most basic crime map to their community. Sheriff Diggs values opportunities to increase services offered to residents, especially those without an increased financial burden.
