The Poquoson Public Library held an award ceremony for the Friends of the Poquoson Public Library essay contest on Thursday, April 12.

The prompt for the essay was "Reading is to the Mind What Exercise is to the Body."

Winners received certificates and cash awards after reading their essays. 

In the primary school division, Katie Ruehl won first place, with Ethan Wiggins winning second. 

In the elementary school division, Emma Forrest won first place, Martha Chiappazzi won second place and Gracie Trice won third place. Molly Paige Deans, Marissa Knight and Lena Cason won honorable mentions. 

In the middle school division, Colin Page Parker won first place, Jimmy Qing won second and Anne Northrup won third. Sabrina El Shanti, Marissa White, and Jenny Gu won honorable mentions. 

In the high school division, Jessica Evans won first place, Vivian Chan won second and Quoc Tuan Nguyen won third. 

The ceremony was held in the Poquoson City Council Chambers.
