Newport News police have identified one suspect and are hoping to name two others after releasing surveillance footage from a theft at a local discount store last month.

Ricky Jordan Black Jr., 33, of Belles Cove Drive in Poquoson, has been charged with petit larceny in connection with a Feb. 12 incident at Dollar General, 5920 Jefferson Ave., Newport News. Black is not in custody and is being sought by police.

According to a report, two other suspects are also being sought in connection with the case which involved the theft of laundry detergent from the store.

According to police, these thefts are part of a growing, nationwide trend. Newport News police handled four such thefts in all of 2011 but have already had that many cases this year, a report said.
