The Freedom Singers from Canada to perform in concert
The Freedom Singers will perform live in concert at 7:30 p.m. March 9 at Emmaus Baptist Church, 814 Yorktown Road, Poquoson.
The Freedom Singers are a Canadian faith-based vocal group performing songs of worship and praise.
The Romanian group members initially fled their home country to escape mandatory enrollment in the military, which would have restricted their freedom of worship. After fleeing to Italy, two of the group's members escaped to Canada as stowaways locked inside a storage container aboard a cargo ship. For two weeks they sailed in complete darkness to finally reach freedom.
The group, which performs Gospel music at churches and religious events, is touring the United States.
For more information, call the church at 757-868-9215.
