Sheriff Diggs appeals to citizens to join Virginia Sheriffs Institute
York-Poquoson Sheriff J.D. Diggs is encouraging York County and Poquoson residents to join the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute as associate members this March.
Current economic conditions and budget cuts from Virginia’s General Assembly have reduced the Sheriff’s Department funding.
“The funding is vital to helping us carry out our mission of making our communities safer places to live, work and play,” Diggs stated in the press release.
Associate member contributions are used to help the the institute provide financial support to families of deputies or sheriffs permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty.
The institute also provides law enforcement officer training programs, public safety and crime-prevention outreach programs and scholarships to Virginia students pursuing criminal justice degrees.
Associate memberships are $20 for individuals and $40 for businesses.
