Poquoson HS grad Kelly Halverson assists, steals in CNU loss
Kelly Halverson, a 5-foot-7 junior guard for the Christopher Newport University Captains, had an assist and a steal in an 82-56 road loss to Ferrum College on Sunday.
A 2008 graduate of Poquoson High School, Halverson was a two-time first-team all-Bay Rivers District Selection playing for Coach Jeff Gross. A first-team all-district as a junior (2006-07) and senior (2007-08), she garnered second-team accolades as a sophomore (2005-06) and honorable mention status as a freshman (2004-05) and scored more than 1,000 points during her career.
Halverson was a member of the National Honor Society, FBLA and FCA. The 21-year-old Poquoson native is the daughter of Matt and Cindy Halverson and majors in communications.
